Naqab Styles: How to Choose, Wear & Care for Your Naqab

Read Article →Burqa Fabric Guide: “Which fabric should I choose?” is the single most common question we get before a burqa order — and honestly, it’s a good question, because fabric affects comfort far more than most people expect before they’ve worn a few different ones. This guide breaks down the three fabrics we work with most, in plain terms, so you can choose based on your actual daily routine rather than guesswork.
If you’re still working out the difference between a burqa, naqab and abaya themselves, our terminology guide is worth reading first. This post assumes you already know which garment you want and just need to pick the right material.
Crepe is our most-ordered fabric for good reason — it strikes a genuinely good balance across nearly every category that matters for daily wear.
Nida is the fabric behind that clean, matte, slightly structured look you’ve probably noticed on higher-end ready-made pieces. It behaves differently from crepe in a few important ways:
Georgette is the softest and most lightweight of the three, with a subtle textured surface that catches light differently from the flatter finish of crepe or nida.
If you genuinely can’t decide, here’s the shortcut we give people on WhatsApp every day:
For general background on how fiber weave density affects breathability and heat retention, the principles are well documented in resources on weaving and fabric structure, if you want to understand the mechanics behind why these three fabrics behave so differently despite sometimes looking similar at a glance.
Fabric and color choice interact more than people expect. Crepe and nida in black hold their depth of color well over repeated wear; georgette in black, being more sheer, often needs a proper opaque lining to avoid an uneven, patchy appearance in bright light. If you’re ordering in a lighter shade, crepe generally shows less visible wear and fading over time than either of the other two.
Yes — this is actually a common and practical request. Many customers order their everyday burqa in crepe or nida, and a separate lightweight georgette piece specifically for hotter months or occasions where they’ll be seated for long stretches (weddings, family events). If budget allows, having one of each covers nearly every situation you’ll encounter through the year.
Many of our long-term customers eventually end up with more than one fabric in rotation, and honestly, this is often the most practical solution rather than searching for one “perfect” all-season fabric that doesn’t really exist. A common pattern we see:
If budget allows only one piece at a time, crepe remains the safest single choice across most of the year for most parts of India — it’s the reason it’s our most-ordered fabric by a wide margin.
It’s worth factoring ongoing care into your decision, not just the upfront wearing experience. Our fabric care guide goes into full detail, but the short version: nida resists wrinkling best and needs the least ironing, crepe sits in the middle, and georgette requires the most careful handling — hand washing, no wringing, and drying flat rather than on a hanger to avoid stretching the delicate weave out of shape. If you’re someone who genuinely doesn’t have time for delicate garment care, weighting your decision toward nida or crepe over georgette will save you real frustration down the line, regardless of which fabric otherwise suits your climate best.
